The Kids Table series from Purple Phoenix Games seeks to lightly explore games that are focused toward children and families. We will do our best to give some good insight, but not bog your down with the millions of rules… This game comes to us with a unique twist – there is a storybook that goes along with it!
The Candy Cane Wormhole game is a scavenger hunt for families to play around the holidays! The idea is to read the book first, make the craft, and then play the game! The book, titled ‘Stanley & the Candy Cane Wormhole’ tells the tale of snow squirrel Stanley in his quest to help Santa deliver gifts more quickly and efficiently. How? By creating a Candy Cane Wormhole that allows him to move effortlessly around the world! I won’t spoil the finer points of the story, but know that Stanley is able to pull it off in the end.
Now onto the game – a scavenger hunt! Parents should first pick a small present, snack, gift, etc. to be the ultimate prize at the end of the scavenger hunt. Then, they should pick between 5-7 Clue cards from the deck (more or less depending on how long you want to play), hide them, and send the kids on their hunt! All cards have clues that will lead them to specific locations around a house, so just place them accordingly. The final clue should lead the kids to the Stanley card and the grand prize!
This is a cute little game, as each card not only has the Clues for the scavenger hunt, but they also have optional Challenges for kids to partake in before moving to their next Clue. Is this the most challenging game out there? Not at all. But it’s a cute little game that is perfect for the holiday season, and helps get and keep kids in the spirit of Christmas. If you’ve got some littles that looooooove finding hidden goodies, I would recommend this game. The storybook adds cute context, and it gets the kids interested in finding Stanley in their own home! Simple, easy, and fast family fun around the holidays is always a win in my book!
