It’s not often we are asked to review RPG sourcebooks or accessories, so when Sarah from Anvl Custom Miniatures asked me to review their miniature customization process using their new resin I jumped at the chance. Three of the four of us at Purple Phoenix Games are involved in a D&D group that meets regularly and have used minis in the past with the campaign. I had been using my half-orc barbarian mini for all my characters because that’s what I started with. His name was TRRV because I’m super creative. Anyway, I thought this might be a great time to try something new and something ridiculous to test out the quality of the products from Anvl.
This is a different kind of preview from us as we typically do not cover RPG accessories, but I have played around on Hero Forge so I kind of had an idea of what I was doing. Simply go to the website at anvl.co and you are greeted with the miniature builder interface, shown below.
From here you may customize to your heart’s content. I did and I came up with the abomination you are about to witness. Moving through the different categories and options is a breeze, and everything is able to be customized. Like, everything. So I gave my mini a sombrero. Of course I did, I’m half Mexican! He’s also riding on a cloud and has several weapons drawn. He’s got some sweet horns on his head and some, well, interesting battle-wear. Take a look below at the generated character named: Ridiculous.
Once the miniature made it to my house I was giddy to see what I created and how well all the options translated into a resin mini. What I received was exactly as I had designed using the software. The photos are below, but this is a great-looking mini that had all the details I wanted and is fun to just admire. While everything is great, eagle-eyed readers will notice some super glue on two places. This is due to my son accidentally dropping it on our hardwood floors and breaking off the spear tip and the left wing tips from about 3 and a half feet up. So do be careful whilst handling your mini, though that should always be the case.
All in all I am quite satisfied with the usability of the website’s builder tool and what that translated into with the final product. I will be using this as my default mini during in-person sessions when those return to the norm. As this particular mini does not necessarily depict my current character, but certainly does possess some of its traits, I consider it a great monstrosity of a general miniature.
Do yourselves a favor and check out the Anvl website when deciding on your next mini purchase. The new resin material seems really nice and is enjoyable to handle. I may order another for my current Goliath Fighter/Dragoon… Enjoy the photos below!
